Extending the Life of an Older Model Bread Machine

In older model bread machines, one of the first parts to go is the seal at the bottom of the bread pan. You'll know this is happening if the bottom of the bread pan has liquid around it when you remove the bread pan from the machine. If you have a very old model, you probably won't be able to get parts for it, or fixing it could be prohibitively expensive. Instead, try this method to keep making bread: Add 1 cup of the amount of flour needed in your recipe to the bread pan first thing. Then the liquid ingredients, the rest of the flour, and the yeast. This method should help you get extended use from your old bread machine.
