Old-Fashioned Warm Fruit Compote

Makes 6 to 8 servings
This fruit compote combines old-fashioned ease with trendy flavor thanks to the wide variety of dried fruits on the market today.
3 cups chopped dried fruits (see tips) 750 mL
1⁄4 cup granulated sugar 60 mL
1 2- to 3-inch (5 to 7.5 cm) cinnamon stick 1
1 tsp minced crystallized ginger 5 mL
2 cups water 500 mL
1⁄2 cup orange juice 125 mL
1. In one slow cooker stoneware, combine dried fruits and sugar. Stir in cinnamon stick, ginger, water and orange juice.
2. Cover and cook on Low for 6 to 7 hours or on High for 3 to 31⁄2 hours, until bubbly and fruit is tender. Discard cinnamon stick. Turn to Warm for serving.
Tip
Select a combination of dried fruits, such as apricots, peaches, apples, berries, plums and cherries. Cut larger pieces of fruit into quarters.
